What is Radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil all over the U.S. including in Utah, and it's easy to mitigate. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. with smoking being the leading cause.

Why test my home for Radon?

A professional electronic test is the most conclusive way to protect your long-term health and determine if mitigation is recommended. Elkhorn Inspection Services uses calibrated, continuous electronic monitors that track fluctuations in radon levels over 48 hours, providing a reliable and tamper-resistant test and professional report.

Is Utah a high-risk radon area?

Yes, many areas in the Wasatch Back and Salt Lake Valley are classified by the state of Utah Department of Environmental Quality as high-risk zones for elevated radon. Radon levels can vary significantly from one house to the next. Testing your specific property is the only way to have peace of mind.

How does Radon get into a home?

Radon enters through openings that exist in any home, such as: Cracks in foundation walls and floor slabs, gaps around service pipes and utility lines, sump pump basins and floor drains, construction joints where the floor meets the wall, and more.

Did you know? Newer homes are often more airtight due to energy-efficient construction, which can trap radon gas inside and lead to higher concentrations. The type of home (split level, walk-out basement, slab on grade, townhome) does not determine whether radon is present—all homes have radon.
